District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office on Thursday (Oct. 17) secured an indictment charging a New Orleans man with the aggravated rape of a preteen girl.

Raymond Green was charged with one count of aggravated rape in the indictment handed up by an Orleans Parish grand jury. Green, 44, faces a mandatory lifetime prison sentence if convicted of the charge.

Green is alleged to have raped the girl inside her mother’s apartment sometime between Sept. 6, 2012-Sept. 6, 2013, when the victim was 6 years old and sometimes left in his care. The girl did not report the sexual abuse to her mother or New Orleans police until March 2017. Green was not arrested on the allegation until May 24, 2019.

Green currently is free after posting the $30,000 bond amount set in May by Magistrate Commissioner Jonathan Friedman. Criminal District Judge Karen Herman has set Green’s new bond at $500,000.

Assistant District Attorney Payal Patel presented the case to the grand jury.
