District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office on Thursday (May 16) secured a murder indictment against a man accused of fatally shooting another man three months ago in New Orleans East.

Quintel Morgan was charged with the second-degree murder of 20-year-old Jawan Bradley in the indictment handed up by an Orleans Parish grand jury. Morgan, 26, faces a mandatory lifetime prison sentence if convicted of the charge.

Morgan additionally was charged with obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation and being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection to Bradley’s death. Stemming from a second arrest, Morgan also was indicted on a second count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and single counts of possession with intent to distribute the controlled substances marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and Tramadol.

New Orleans police said Bradley was fatally shot in the head at 6:21 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2019. He was found unresponsive near the intersection of East Filmore Avenue and Piper Lane in the Pines Village neighborhood.

Morgan, who lived in a home within a block of the murder scene, was arrested the next day. At the time of his arrest, Morgan was armed with a 9mm handgun later determined by ballistics testing to be the gun that discharged shell casings where Bradley’s body was found.
