District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office on Thursday (Sept. 12) secured the double-murder conviction of a New Orleans man who fatally shot two brothers as they sat inside a car parked in the 7th Ward three years ago.

An Orleans Parish jury deliberated just over two hours before finding Antoine “Tweezy” Edwards guilty on two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the violent deaths of siblings Joshua and Ryan “Rudy” Johnson on July 31, 2016.

Edwards, 34, faces a mandatory lifetime prison term for each of his victims. Criminal District Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier will impose his sentence on Sept. 30.

The Johnson brothers were found shot to death just after midnight, inside a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox parked with its engine running near the corner of Pauger and North Miro streets. Joshua Johnson was 31 when killed, Ryan Johnson was 24. The victims were brothers of reality television personality and author Antonia “Toya” Johnson, ex-wife of New Orleans-based rapper Lil Wayne.

Several witnesses identified Edwards as the gunman responsible for the murders, and New Orleans police arrested him on March 9, 2017.

Assistant District Attorneys Jason Napoli, Ashley Spears and Zach Grate prosecuted the case.
