Child Support Enforcement

District Attorney Leon A. Cannizzaro, Jr. firmly believes that our children are not only the most innocent but also the most vulnerable victims of both poverty and crime.  Academic research has established that children who are raised in households living below the poverty line are more likely to find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system.  As such, the District Attorney strongly believes in using the power of his office to assist custodial parents in obtaining court ordered child support.

The Child Support Enforcement Division of District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s Office enforces child support orders of the Civil District Court and the Juvenile Court in Orleans Parish.  The District Attorney’s office and the Louisiana Department of Social Services perform these services pursuant to a cooperative endeavor agreement.

If you are a custodial parent and need assistance with establishing paternity of a minor child, establishing an order of support, or enforcing an existing order please go to Louisiana Department of Social Services website (  The website contains all information needed to start the process of obtaining assistance.

In Orleans Parish, child support orders are established by Louisiana Support Enforcement Services.  Information as well as the documents needed to start the process are available on the Louisiana Support Enforcement Services website (  Once an order of support is obtained, your case will be forwarded to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office for enforcement.
